Pre-School Intervention Program

The Preschool Intervention Program (PIP), supports children aged 3 to 5 years old with severe development needs and 3 1/2 to 5 years olds with mild/moderate needs.  PIP provides specialized service for preschool aged children with needs to be supported within their own community.  It provides children with small class sizes, small adult-child ratios, language enriched environments, Family Orientated Programming Sessions (FOPs), and transitions to the next year.

Using a collaborative approach, practitioners integrate services and strategies functionally in the classroom.  The areas of need addressed include:  speech and language; fine motor skills; and gross motor skills.  PIP team members also collaborate with the Alberta Childern's Hospital, Medical Personnel, outside agencies, Private Preschool Programs, as well as the Calgary Health Authority to help support families by gathering information to understand and support their child.

Who can access these services?

The majority of children who access PIP must meet criteria set by Alberta Education.  PIP is currently being offered in Airdrie at R.J. Hawkey Elementary  and Coopers Crossing, in Cochrane at Elizabeth Barrett, and in Chestermere at Prairie Waters Elementary.

How do you access services?

Parents must complete an application form,  available at Prairie Waters Elementary or through our Education Centre's Early Intervention Team.
