Learning Support

Learning Support

What is Learning Support? The Learning Support team is comprised of learning support teachers and learning assistants, who collaborate closely with our administration, Child Development Advisors and classroom teachers. We assist our teachers through coaching, brainstorming, materials and tool development and offer direct support so that they are able to work towards providing inclusive classroom environments. The LS teachers also participate in weekly team meetings with administration to collaboratively problem solve social emotional, behaviour and academic concerns. The Learning Support team also provides digital and face to face support for the creation of accommodation checklists, Behavior and Safety Support Plans, matrix planning and strength-based goal writing for Student Support Plans (SSPs). We also work closely with other RVS personnel, such as Educational Psychologists, Learning Strategists, Family School Liaisons (FSL), Speech Language Pathologists (SLP), Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists (PT), Positive Behaviour Strategists and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialists (DHH), among others. It is our aim to meet the needs of all of our learners with the necessary differentiation and modifications needed to allow for success for all.

Universal Learning Environments

At Prairie Waters School, we believe that each and every student has the right to be successful. Some students are limited by their environment in terms of their ability to access the curriculum, which therefore, limits their ability to be successful. Making the curriculum accessible in multiple ways changes the environment to allow universal access, and maximize success. Ensuring access for students who have difficulty will provide all students with multiple ways to access the curriculum. Recognizing that the way individuals learn can be unique and calls for creating programs and learning environments that increase access to learning by reducing physical, cognitive, intellectual, social-emotional and organizational barriers to learning.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
